Do you like singing?
SCWirrals (Singing Circle Wirral) is a group of Wirral Guiding Leaders and Trefoil Guild members from all over Wirral who get together about once a month just to sing for fun. But we’d love some more people to join us so we are inviting anyone who’d like to come and see what we do to come along 2-3.30pm Prenton Methodist Church Hall, Waterpark Road, Prenton for an afternoon of singing fun. It’s open to all ages from YL to 100!
It’s not just us here on Wirral: There are local and regional Singing Circles all over the UK and all the main Guiding centres (Waddow, Foxlease, Broneirion etc) hold Singing Circle weekends once or twice a year to which members from all the small local groups can go for a weekend of singing and fun in vast numbers!
“The musical genre is hard to define! – It’s not ‘campfire’ but we do sing some campfire songs (Donkey Riding, Rocka my soul, Kookaburra). It’s not folk either but we do sing folk songs, especially songs from overseas: (Barges, Tzena). We sing lots of rounds and silly songs too, as well as serious songs (Dona Nobis Pacem, Magic Penny, It’s a small world) and ‘old’ guiding songs (Peace of the River, Swinging Along, Guide Evening Hymn).
As well as any songbooks you may already have such as the Diamond Jubilee Song, Chalet Songbook or Girl-Guide Songbooks 1 and 2 book there are many new songbooks published which are full of songs written especially for Singing Circle groups which we will happily share with anyone who comes along.
You don’t have to be able to read music as most of the songs are easy to pick up. Who wouldn’t want to learn The Breakfast Calypso, The Midge Song or I can see a nasty Spider?
Go on – be brave – come and try us out!
RSVP if you hope to attend and any queries to firstname.lastname@example.org.”
